Orbit was engaged to conduct the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) for the multi-day 'Next Iconic Walk' development within the Tyndall Regional Reserve and Lake Beatrice Conservation Area. Utilising a blend of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including advanced mapping and modelling tools, Orbit critically analysed the visual impacts of introducing the new Lake Huntley and Lake Mary huts into a sensitive, high-mountain landscape characterised by rugged terrain. Their role involved conducting comprehensive view shed analyses and generating a Zone of Theoretical View (ZTV) to objectively evaluate the development's visibility from key observation points and off-track recreational areas. Beyond baseline assessment, Orbit actively shaped the project's sustainable integration by establishing targeted mitigation and design strategies. By recommending careful site selection to avoid prominent ridgelines, mandating minimalist low-profile architectural forms, and specifying natural material palettes to minimise visual contrast, Orbit successfully demonstrated that the project could be implemented sustainably while preserving the region's internationally renowned natural beauty.
