For the proposed Cooba Solar Project in the Campaspe Local Government Area, Orbit was engaged to deliver a customised Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) to support the project's planning approval. Tasked with evaluating a 6.9-square-kilometre solar energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility south of Colbinabbin, Orbit synthesised established international and national guidelines to assess the site against local planning schemes. Our team meticulously analysed the project footprint, local policy frameworks, the surrounding agricultural and viticulture landscape, and the potential visual impact on nearby residents, wineries, and commuters throughout the project's lifecycle.
Through rigorous evaluation, Orbit established that the local environment possesses a 'Moderate' Visual Absorption Capacity. By assessing the proposed 5.5-metre-high solar panels—both with and without proposed vegetative screening—our team determined that the visual Magnitude of Change would remain unequivocally 'Low'. Ultimately, Orbit successfully demonstrated that the project's visual impact falls well within acceptable limits, proving that the solar facility will harmoniously integrate with its surroundings and satisfying all visual compatibility requirements for approval.
